Diaphragm Accumulator | diaphragm accumulator

What is a Diaphragm Accumulator? An economical device for enhancing the performance of your hydraulic system. A diaphragm accumulator consists of two metal hemispheres that are connected together.

The internal volume is separated by a synthetic rubber. Gas occupies the space. As fluid enters the other chamber, the gas gets compressed. After all the liquid is discharged, the diaphragm covers the outlet and retains gas inside.

Diaphragm accumulators are a cost-effective means of storing energy under pressure, absorbing hydraulic shocks, and reducing pump pulsation/flow fluctuations. They provide reliable performance in a lightweight and compact design. Diaphragm accumulators are inexpensive, compact, and lightweight, making them suitable for applications where weight and space are critically important.

They are particularly suitable for agricultural and construction mobile markets. In these types of accumulators, the medium between oil and gas is an elastic diaphragm. As pressure increases in the oil inlet and enters the accumulator tank, the diaphragm deforms.

The increase in oil pressure leads to an increase in gas pressure and consequently reduces its volume, allowing hydraulic energy to be stored in the accumulator. The most significant advantage of diaphragm accumulators is their high weight-to-volume ratio, which is why they are often used in the construction of flying devices, such as airplanes.

We know that unlike gases, hydraulic oils cannot be condensed and stored until required for use. Therefore, accumulators are utilized to meet this need. Accumulators are essentially storage devices capable of storing oil under pressure for later use when necessary.
